Young New Hampshire Tourist Dies in Florida

Lindsey Partridge young lady dies in Boca Raton, Florida

Boca Raton—A 22-year-old New Hampshire woman, Lindsey Partridge, was vacationing in Florida with her boyfriend when her day turned dark. The couple rented a 23-foot boat to venture onto the Atlantic Ocean, however, they travelled further offshore than recommended at 150 yards. Apparently a Small Craft Advisory was in effect due to adverse weather, per Boca PostSoon after reaching the 150 yard mark, a wave came over the boat and knocked Ms. Partridge overboard.

Immediately, the boyfriend, Jacob Smith, turned the boat around and jumped in to reach her. Because of the dire situation, he ended up swimming her back to shore with the help of lifeguards, to get her to shore as safe as possible. Tragically, upon paramedics, she had already passed away.

The Partridge family was back home in Groton, Massachusetts when the incident happened. They recalled speaking with her at noon on that Sunday, only to hear that her death was minutes later. “They were having fun and they were really excited and that was around 12 o’clock and at 12:15, she died.” said the dad. The dad also pointed out how she was familiar with boats. With that in mind, he alluded to her death being nothing but an accident.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Division of Law Enforcement investigated the incident. Here is what they had to say about the accident:

(The Open Motorboat) was traveling offshore approximately one quarter mile northeast of the Boca Inlet and 150 yards off-shore with two occupants on board. While the vessel was traveling north, a wave washed over the vessel,” The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission told BocaNewsNow.

Safety First

Alas, boating accidents can happen to anyone. Florida weather can turn sideways fast, and that is why staying alert and informed is so important. The NOAA has two apps that are great for keeping up-to-date with the latest weather forecasts as well as wind, wave, and temperature data: The NOAA Marine Weather Forecast and NOAA Weather Radar & Live Alerts.
