PINELLAS COUNTY – TAMPA BAY AREA (Bay News 9) — For the third time in two days, another vehicle has wound up in a Bay area waterway. This time, it happened on the east side of the Pinellas Bayway in between Interstate 275 and the Pinellas County beaches. According to witnesses, a Toyota pickup truck was speeding when it went out of control, hit a guard rail and flipped over into the water just after 10 p.m.

Fisherman along the bridge jumped into the water to rescue the driver of the truck. Authorities said the man was taken to an area hospital. His name and condition have not been released.

The night before, a recreational vehicle (RV) lost control and went off the Howard Frankland Bridge into Tampa Bay. A short time after that accident, an SUV crashed on the same bridge near the 4th Street exit, landing in water as well.

An investigation into the Bayway crash is still ongoing.
