NATIONAL—According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 937 construction workers were killed in 2015. That marked the most fatalities of any industry sector – almost three times more than in manufacturing – and the deadliest year for construction since 2008. Construction-related fatalities accounted for 21.4 percent of all workplace fatalities in 2015.
OSHA’s has identified “Construction Focus Four” safety hazards where workers are usually seriously injured. They are the following:
– Caught-in or caught-between
– Electrocution
– Falls
– Struck-by
The above-mentioned “Focus Four” hazards were responsible for 602 construction workplace fatalities in 2015, including:
– 364 fatalities from falls
– 90 fatalities from a struck-by incident
– 81 fatalities from electrocution
– 67 fatalities from being caught in or between an object
