FIAT CHRYSLER RECALLS NEARLY 1.7 MILLION DODGE RAM PICKUP TRUCKS | FLORIDA

NATIONAL—Fiat Chrysler, the manufacturer of Dodge Ram, is recalling more than 1.7 million trucks for steering wheel and airbag issues.

As one of the largest automobile manufactures in the world, this recall will affect trucks in the US, Canada, Mexico, and other countries around the globe. In total, three separate recalls have been issued covering a variety of Ram trucks from the 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 model years.

The biggest of the three recalls covers 1.35 million Ram trucks that may have faulty steering wheel wiring, which could cause inadvertent driver-side airbag deployment. Specifically, it involves Ram models 1500, 2500, 3500 from 2012 to 2014. According to a recent statement released by Fiat Chrysler, two related injuries have been reportedly caused by this problem.

The next largest among the three covers nearly 200,000 other Ram trucks, including 2013-2015 Ram 3500’s, 2014 2500’s, and some 2014 1500’s.  The company said that some of the welds in the steering system of these  trucks might have “insufficient fusion” which could cause the part to break and lead to a “diminished steering response.” Fiat Chrysler stated that it knows of one crash stemming from the problem.

The third recall, affecting another 188,000 trucks, covers Ram 1500 Quad Cabs from model years 2014 to 2015. The side airbags in these trucks are said to not be in compliance with a federal regulation meant to protect rear passengers if the trucks roll over.  While Fiat Chrysler has said that no injuries or crashes have been linked to the issue, testing by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has revealed that the side airbag in these trucks fail to stop rear passengers from hitting a roof support pillar.
