FLORIDA JURY AWARDS $30 million in smoker’s death
BROWARD COUNTY – A Broward County jury awarded $20 million in punitive damages to the widow of a longtime smoker who died of lung cancer.
The six-person jury found that Philip Morris USA and R.J. Reynolds each shared a third of the responsibility for 68 year old smoker’s 1994 death and the smoker shared a third of the responsibility.
The jury also awarded $10 million in compensatory damages, to be divided among the three responsible parties.
