Florida pool drain systems Ι drowning hazard must be updated Ι FEDERAL LAW Ι SWIMMING POOLS
While, “The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act became effective in December…seasonal pools don’t have to comply until they reopen.” The CPSC says nearly 80 percent of drownings occur in residential settings. “Parents should beware that more young children suffer from submersion injuries or deaths in residential pools than they do in public ones.”
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) released a study that “focused on submersion injuries and deaths from pool and spa incidents in children under age 5.” The results were that “nearly 80 percent of the drownings in 2004 to 2006 occurred in residential settings, such as at the child’s own home or a family member’s or neighbor’s house.” Florida Injury Attorney G. Alan Tripp, Jr., encourages all pool owners to be sure that their swimming pool drain systems meet the new federal standards. Keep yourself, your family and others safe!
